Abstract
:
The study aimed to identify the effect of bilingualism (Arabic – English) on Arabic Language Skills for Primary Grades' Children in International Schools. In order to achieve study objectives, the researcher followed Descriptive Analytical Methodology. The study sample included (163) mothers and (30) Arabic Language teachers in International Schools. The study relied on questionnaire as data collection tool. The results, on the basis of mean and standard deviation, showed that mothers think that bilingualism doesn’t affect Arabic Language Skills, on the other hand, teachers think that bilingualism affect Arabic Language Skills to some extent. In addition, study findings revealed that bilingual children showed weakness in Arabic Language vocabulary, weakness in reading and writing skills, mistakes in sentence structureو and they tend to use English vocabulary and sentences while speaking in Arabic language. Study recommendations included increasing the amount of Arabic Language classes in International Schools by the Ministry of Education, and raising the parents’ awareness regarding the importance of Arabic Language by Schools' Leaders. The researcher suggested conducting more research studies about the effects of bilingualism on Arabic Language Skills.
